In concert with the Florida Sunshine Pops

Two renowned SCC alumni are performing in the Florida Sunshine Pops' "Fascinating Gershwin: 'Rhapsody in Blue' " series of concerts in January.

Jazz pianist Copeland Davis graduated from SCC in 1971 as a member of the College's second class of music majors, says Dr. Burt Perinchief, retired director of choral activities for SCC.

Vocalist Norm Lewis "was in our choirs and took voice classes" at SCC in the early 1980s, Perinchief says. Lewis has appeared in several Broadway musicals, including Miss Saigon, Chicago and his current role as King Triton in The Little Mermaid.

Davis and Lewis, who have met only briefly, will appear with the Florida Sunshine Pops, a 65-piece orchestra, at the following locations:

• Sunday, Jan. 11: Carole & Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton

• Monday, Jan. 12, and Wednesday, Jan. 14: Eissey Campus Theatre, Palm Beach Community College, Palm Beach Gardens

• Tuesday, Jan. 13: Amaturo Theater, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Fort Lauderdale

• Thursday, Jan. 15: Miramar Cultural Center, Miramar

SCC's Music Department offers programs for performers and educators studying vocal or instrumental music. Small classes and dedicated teachers provide one-on-one instruction, and students are given the opportunity to perform for peers and to participate in the College's performing ensembles.
